Milton Nascimento to start touring in the US in November. For some reason that info is not on his official website but only on sites that sell tickets in English. Here's a site from ticket master that can give you some info.

Does anyone know if he is going  to appear in NY?  The Ticket Master site did not list NY as one of the events.

Yes, he will be performing in NYC, at Carnegie Hall. http://brazilianmusic.com/ I think shows will be added to more cities as news of his touring grows in the US. He probably will also tour in Canada.

I have noticed that each site that has info on his touring in the US has more or less than the other. It would be a good idea to a least check more than one site. If anyone hears of MN coming to Atlanta, GA, let me know!

Thanks.

Funny we should be talking about Milton Nascimento today.  I was just listening to the local jazz station and they played one of his songs and after reported that today was his birthday.
Feliz Aniversario Milton!

I first heard of Milton Nascimento on a George Duke album, A Brazilian Love Affair, back in 79'. The songs were Cravo E Canela and Ao Que Vai Nascer. As I got older I finally purchased the album Club Da Esquina with those songs on it. Cat can play and sing. Airto and Flora Purim were on that George Duke album also.

Sheila E (Escovedo) was the timbale player for the George Duke band and Airto was supplying the Brazilian percussion. I played the drums a little bit (Yes I am a Percussionista) and I lost my mind trying to figure out what was being played...

Both of those albums to this day still sound fresh and new to me.

Tip:
Never use a second party ticket sales supplier. They will rip you off. If you can, always buy tickets at the venue, days before the event. Check to see if they have Will Call, if you want to use it. Most times the tickets will cost less if bought in advance of the day of the show.

Can you imagine the culture shock of our Brazilian friends that are in the states with the HIGH ticket prices of our US concerts!

actually I think that depending on the concert, they are a lot more expensive in brazil generally to keep the "lower class" out.

I don't agree. I have seen bands who play all night in Salvador for R$20 (and yes, that puts the show out of the range of most who live in, say, Mata Escura)and whose tickets go for upwards of U$100 (which puts them out of the range of many normal working Americans and Brazilians--and some tix are scalped by some Brazilians for significantly more--I guess someone has the cash) for a (much shorter) show in Boston.

Note: Because of the large Brazilian community in Boston, clubs there over the past few years have gotten many Brazilian major bands and singers in a variety of music styles. Usually the tour also includes NYC and Miami, and sometimes smaller venues which until recently had numbers of Brazilians.

And as far as third party sellers, for Milton's Boston show, the organization bringing him in is the only seller, so you pay what they ask or you don't go. They also booked him in a hall that is long and narrow, so if you wait to purchase, the seats even slightly toward the back are really far from the stage and the performers appear about an inch tall, if you can see them at all.

Sorry for the confusion. Always buy concert tickets as soon as possible or risk the chance of them and the show selling out or getting lousy seats. I hope this is a trend for 10', Brazilian artists coming to the states. (And me going to Brazil!)

The MPB folks (Gil, Caetano, etc) have been touring the U.S. regularly since the late 70s. It's only been with the surge in the Brazilian community working in the U.S. in the last few years of economic goodtimes that Brazilian bands/singers in a variety of styles (forro, pagode, sertaneja, etc) popular with the Brazilian community have been touring regularly to those places that have large Brazilian populations (usually Boston, NYC, Miami and sometimes Atlanta and the Carolinas). As the economic crisis continues and many Brazilians continue to return to Brazil, it would be sad to see those bands/singers stop touring the U.S. because of lack of audience.  So educate yourself and your friends, support these bands with your ticket purchases and presence, and there may be more diversity of Brazilian music available live in the U.S.
